Headless kick

It appears as though I must be on a bit of a headless kick. I just looked at my last few posts, and in the past week I’ve posted 5 headless images. But they’re cool! I love them. If you don’t, that’s o.k. I always make sure to include the heads in the majority of the shots ;)

Goosebumps and kisses

Today’s wedding took me out to Esterhazy, where I’ve never photographed before. After a few family shots in town, we headed out on the highway until we found a good location. The bridge was awesome, as was the European looking church. The poor girls froze nearly to death, but the guys seemed fine in their suits. I feel terrible from grooms and groomsmen when it’s 30 + degrees in the summer, but I think I feel worse for brides and bridesmaids when it’s barely above freezing in the middle of October! You’re an awesome couple and wedding party guys.

Turns out I knew almost everyone in the wedding party. One bridesmaid and groomsmen were a wedding couple that I photographed two years ago, one groomsmen is a future wedding client, and another groomsmen has been in more wedding parties than I can count on one hand. I’m sure I’ve seen him every year for the past few years, and sometimes twice a year. He’s a professional groomsmen!

Hope you were all able to warm up when you got to supper, and didn’t spend the whole evening with the chills :)

I think this is my favorite “fun” wedding party shot. I’ve never tried this before, but was kind of getting tired of the old “everyone jump in the air” shot. So I decided to switch it up a bit, and give the girls a break. I love everyone’s expressions! They’re no basketball players, that’s for sure, but after a few takes, they all managed to at least clear the girl’s heads.

Sweet wedding ride, eh!

Puppy love

O.k. So it’s 1:30 a.m. in the morning, and I couldn’t come up with a clever title for this post, so I called it Puppy Love. I know, I’m lame, but hey. They are in love, and they did bring their cute puppy! And can anybody guess where the third picture was taken??? :)

New location

On friday I had a blast with three out of town grads. We ventured off to a new location that I wanted to try out. It turned out great! There were so many cool possibilites. Thanks for letting me experiment a little and thanks for bringing some of your own ideas. Hope you had fun!

Family/Grad combo

On the third cold session of the week, we hit a few locations around town, and got some cool images. I’m liking that these grads this year are bringing some things that have meaning to them. We did a couple neat things with the guitar, then moved into the studio to do some more pictures with his family. It was sure a lot more comfortable temperature wise to move into the studio. The next few weeks of sessions are going to be a bit nippy, but find some nice sweaters and we’ll be fine!

I like this headless one. I shot it and asked him if he minded that his head wasn’t in the picture.  Although almost mildly offended, he liked it too when he saw it on the LCD. Looks even better photoshopped eh!

And into the studio for his sister’s family and a full group shot….

Farm girl

Tuesday was another cold day, but you can’t do horse pictures in the studio, so again, we toughed it out! I brought my 7 year old out with me and he just loved the farm. He wants his grandma and grandpa to have this many animals on their farm too. Horses, kittens, dogs, oh my!

Oops. Again, too small! I will do better on my next posts. I have a LOT more to come, as I’ve been shooting like a mad woman this week.

Chilly kids

On Monday, we froze our butts off for about a half an hour, but we were all tough (the kids more than me – I had a warm jacket on!) and got it done.  There were lots of nice colors stilll, but I liked these two shots best in black and white. I also resized the images wrong, so sorry they’re a little smaller than normal :)

Fine Art award

I belong to the PPOC (Professional Photographers of Canada) and every year the Provincial branch (SPPA) holds an annual convention. I’ve never attended, but you can submit up to four images for the Print Salon. I got a call last week from a fellow photographer and I was told that my truck print had won Best in Class for the Fine Art category!! I was so excited, I couldn’t believe it. Anyone who’s used the bathroom at my house may recognize the print. I shot it at the world famous Howie’s lot in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, one of my all time favorite places to take pictures. This is one of my favorite non -people shots that I’ve done, so the fact that it won an award makes it that much more special. I don’t usually pay much attention to the competition side of the association, but it is nice to be recognized by fellow professional photographers.

Forgot one!

I meant to add this one to the original post, but I missed it. Cool bridge, gorgeous sky, pretty bride.

Valley wedding

Saturday’s wedding was GORGEOUS! The ceremony was held in the bride’s parent’s back yard, which was surrounded by yellow birch trees, which were losing their leaves throughout the afternoon. I got nailed in the head numerous times by flying leaves! I haven’t done any weddings in the valley before, so I was excited to get some views with the hills in the background. What an awesome weekend for pictures! Getting to do those families down at the lake with the Saskatchewan mountains as a backdrop, then a wedding with the same! We tried to work with the wind, but it was nasty.  It’s so handy having digital and being able to shoot 40 frames of the same image to ensure that one is good, with no hair going wacky directions.

It was fun to meet this bride’s family, as I’ve known her for a few years, through the school. She’s a fantastic teacher, and I’ve had a couple of her students here at the studio through the Work Experience program. It was neat to see her in a different setting, and meet her new husband!

I also had a helper today. Jocelyn Harvey came down to second shoot with me this weekend. She’s embarked on a photography career in the past few years, and wanted to hang out with me for a wedding shoot, since she hasn’t done many yet. We had a good time, and she got a lot of great shots, from different angles. She also got lots of me in action, so I’ll post those in a few days too!

Look at these crazy people!! This is a bridge down in the valley, with an raging river (well, with all the wind it looked raging anyway) below. She said she wanted to jump up on the bridge, and I was so nervous. It’s a couple feet tall, and  with a wedding dress on, it’s not the easiest to get up onto. The wind was so strong, and I had awful visions of her losing her balance and being blown off the bridge and into the river. What a woman. Farm girls rock!

How hot is she here?? Very hot!
