Promo slideshow

On tuesday this week, I travelled to Ft. Qu’appelle to do four presentations at the Prairie Valley School Division Grade 11 Career Day.  I was a nervous mess, but I managed to get through all four talks.  I think I had close to 100 students come through the sessions, so hopefully at least one of them got something out of it!

I had done up a slideshow to start off my presentation, and since I put a few hours into it, I thought I’d post it on here. Then troubles happened, and I couldn’t figure out how to post a video on here. So I signed up for YouTube. Here’s the link if you want to check it out……

Another chilly engagement session

I do really love being able to get outside to shoot, and this winter I’ve done a ton of sessions in the snow.  It was supposed to be nice out on saturday, and temperature wise, it was. Unfortunately, we always seem to have that stinkin’ wind! Aaarrrggh.  I’m getting sooo ready for spring! We drove around town trying to find areas that were somewhat sheltered from the wind. We sort of found a few, but it was still pretty ugly. We made our way back to the studio to finish off, and that allowed me to try out my new macro lens again, and get another pretty ring shot. :)

I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s neat that I’m starting to book weddings for couples whom I’ve previously shot their grad photos.  Last summer, I shot at least 4 weddings that I’d also done their grads.  I did this girl’s grad pictures a few years back, but I’ve also photographed her family a number of times. Thanks for including me in this next portion of your life! It’s a long wait til the wedding, but I know it’ll be so much fun.

Cheerful

This local family came in this morning, and right from the beginning, their little girl was all smiles. She was happy, cooperative and a pleasure to be with!

Using the old barn set

This is the second daughter in this family that I’ve photographed, and they were both equally gorgeous in their western gear. In another life, I would have loved to have grown up around horses and lived the whole cowgirl lifestyle.  Instead, I now have to live vicariously through my clients!  She looked stunning in her hat, and had flawless skin.  What an easy subject to shoot!

A boy and his car

Today I got to take pictures of another Mustang owner (my second grad of ’09 with one) It was chilly, but you can’t do car shots in the studio, so we went snap happy for a few minutes at a time, then warmed up in the car while looking for new locations. I think we did pretty well for about 25 minutes!

My attempt at a James Dean-ish look. :)

Before & After

I’ve been photographing this family for a few years now. They’re such fun, happy people to be around. I did a few pregnancy shots of them last summer, and now baby is over 6 months old! I’ve included a before shot, just for kicks. This is one of my favorite pregnancy shots. My tree in my backyard only blooms for a few days, but they were here when it did, so I took advantage of it.

Back to the pictures from today now…..

Mom told me she has an obsession with purses, so she brought one along to put her little girl in. What a cute idea! I thought it was terrific. The fact that she loved it so much, and made the cutest cooing, talking sounds the whole time, made it even better. She was busy talking away to that purse, and I just had to keep shooting.  When we did need some big smiles, the whole family was working their butts off to get them. You guys are great. Thanks for coming. It was great to meet the newest member of your family!

The above shot is the original, but I just had to include this version, waaaay zoomed in. Look at that reflection!! I can see me, the big blue Sasktachewan sky, and the families vehicle! I know there are better cameras than mine on the market, but really, that’s pretty amazing sharpness and clarity I think. I know having a big huge eye on the screen is a little spooky, but I am a sucker for a good eye reflection.

New Canvases

I got a few canvases back from my lab today, and I thought I’d share them. The lab I deal with has changed the way they do canvases, and they look deadly! They have super sharp edges now, whereas before, they were a little rounder, and more padded looking. These are nice and crisp, and the frame is much sturdier. I forgot to take a picture of the back, but they now come with hanging hardware as well.

Canvases are such an awesome way to display your favorite image (or images!) from your session. They really transform an picture into an artpiece.  And they’re not just for families and weddings either. This is the second newborn canvas I’ve sold. They will  be a keepsake that will be passed down through the generations.  The family print is a 30 x 20 and the newborn is a 20 x 16. I will be delivering the family image on thursday, and I’m super excited for them to get it!

See the nice sharp edges?! I love them. :)   I added a little decorative border to this image as well. I have to give credit for that idea to my friend Alison, in Humbolt.

Stripes

I don’t get alot of little boys coming to the studio, so when these guys came this morning, I was excited to see what we could do. Big brother and I went downstairs to play for a bit, while mom got the baby settled down (he wasn’t super thrilled to be here!). He spotted the fire truck, and right away, I knew we had to bring it into the studio. When Santa brought this at Christmas for my 3 year old, I had every intention of confiscating it as a studio prop eventually!  Today was the day. He loved it, and I haven’t done a good ol’ plain white backdrop high key image in awhile.  It was nice meeting you boys! Thanks for coming to visit me. :)

Mommy eventually worked a few smiles out of the little man for me, but I love the cuddly ones too, soother and all!

Shimmery

I love it when grads come early for their formal sessions. It’s so much more relaxing when it’s not the day of grad. We took our time and tried a few new things out. Thanks for letting me experiment with my lights! I wanted to really try and pick up on the shimmeriness of the dress, so I fooled around with my light placement a bit more than I could have on grad day. We also stepped outside for a few very quick shots. She was so Ice Princess-y in this dress!

I also have to throw out a BIG HUGE THANK YOU to my girlfriend  Shelley. My little guy was running a high fever, and she came to the house on short notice to watch over him while I shot this session.  This is why small town living is so great. Good friends are always close by and are even able to skip out of work for a few hours if you need them!

A new chapter

A few years ago I photographed this gorgeous girl at her graduation.  Now our paths have crossed again, as she and her fiance are expecting and preparing for their wedding! I had really enjoyed meeting her as a grade 12 student, and now getting to see her again as a young woman, taking that next big step in her life is really neat. She’s got an awesome guy to join her, and they are in for all sorts of exciting new adventures! Thanks for travelling down guys, and I can’t wait to see you in a a few months again when baby arrives. :)
