Post season Grad

Yes, a grad at the end of July.  I didn’t have any openings in June when she had first called, so we postponed the session to July. Then we got rain. So we rescheduled again. Then we got rain again. I happened to be going into the city, and since she is a Regina grad, we did the session there.  We had lots of curious looks from bypassers, since this was  a thursday afternoon, she was stunning, tall and in a rather out of the ordinary dress. We also had an ongoing visit from a slightly intoxicated, over friendly fellow, who really thought she was beautiful. I never realized how much tougher it is to shoot a session like this in the city, as compared to in my safe Grenfell, where everyone knows why I’m running around strange places with my camera!

Isn’t it cool how her eyes match the turquoise in her dress!

Country girls (and dad)

Another fun evening spent with another fun family at another farmyard. Saskatchewan is the best.   These guys had all sorts of locations picked out, and the girls were so into it.  I’ve known them all since they were toddlers, and they’re the sweetest kids. I’ve been looking forward to this session for awhile now, because I knew we’d have a blast. Thanks for taking time out of your camping to do these!

Saltcoats wedding

This past weekend’s wedding was in the small town of Saltcoats. I google mapped it, and figured it would be about 2 hours away. Turns out it’s just barely over an hour, so I had a LOT of time to kill.  I checked out the town a bit, and had a great time! I popped into an antique store who’s owner was a real unique dude. He was super friendly, and managed to sell me a crakcled old vintage door. I’m a sucker for a good antique.  And because it’s a small town, he was at the wedding too, so I got to see him twice!  The wedding party had two vintage cars as well that matched the bridesmaids dresses.  That’s good coordination!   I also covered the reception this weekend, and there was a ton of kissing going on. I included one of my favorites at the end. That’s the groom’s new sister-in-law (one of three new sister in-laws that he acquire over the weekend!)

Friday

On friday night I got to meet up with this cute family. The moment I got out of the truck the kids came right up to me, excited and full of stories. They were so super friendly!  Sitting still wasn’t as much fun as running around and playing, so we did a pretty loose session. There were so many great locations to work with, and the kids were all smiles, so it was just a matter of me getting myself in front of them for long enough to snap a few shots!  After we were all done, I got a ton of hugs from the little girl. I think she would have gladly come home with me if I’d said yes. Thanks for making the drive out for your session guys. I know that’s not always an easy thing to do with kids!

Another prairie night

Again I got to spend an evening shooting  cool people, being bathed in the golden Saskatchewan sun. We ventured off for a bit of a hike through some fields to a top secret location. It’s a great spot in the later evening.  The girls were full of giggles and going totally super model on me, so a good time was had by all.  To top it off, I even scored a glass of wine at the end, under an imaginary gazebo. Fun, fun night. :)

The beauty of the Saskatchewan outback

Nothing says Saskatchewan like a man and his tractor!  I had so much fun with tuesday night’s session. This couple had some places picked out on their land that were special to them, and they were so representative of our unique province. The farm equiptment, big lone trees in a pasture, canola fields in bloom, quadding under a huge golden sun…   I really do love this province. Thanks so much for showing me your breath taking land, and gorgeous views.

Hilarious!!

I was on another photography blog this morning (part of my pre-work morning routine!) and I found this YouTube clip. I have to share this, because I was giggling so hard, and had a smile on my face for 5 minutes and 9 seconds. Take a little break from whatever you’re doing, and laugh!

Relaxation

I spent an awesome day with some great people on saturday. Over the past year I’ve gotten to know this couple quite well, and I was happy to be able to hang out with them on the weekend. It was a super laid back day, and the requirement of me was to get lots of candid shots. The view from the bride’s parent’s house was gorgeous, overlooking Round Lake, the sun was in full force, with not a cloud in site, and everyone spend the day chilling on the patio. It was a terrific way to shoot a wedding! I may have to get more into this photojournalistic style of shooting!

Congratulations guys on winding up on this last bit of your journey. Best of luck in the future, and I’m sure I’ll see more of you!  :)

A little explanation for the above photo. The boys were hitting balls into the lake, but didn’t want to make divets on the lawn. They decided to lay down a floor mat, but as you can see, that plan didn’t pan out so well.  Every swing they took, the mat came along with the club!

Edible parcel??

While we were gone on holidays last week, I recieved a message from the ladies at the post office in town, telling me that I had a parcel with parishable items enclosed. What?????  I had no idea what it might be. I was delighted to see the pretty box when we got home, and saw that the name on it was Eden’s Apples. I was still a little unsure of what might be inside, because I didn’t think that apples were something you would send in the mail! I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautifully wrapped, carmel/chocolate covered apple enclosed.  The thank you note attached was from the SIAST student that I had work with me for a week in the spring. Marcy was fun to have around, and I enjoyed getting to share some photography tips with her. It was such a thoughtful gift to give, and so original! If you’d like to visit the website, you can do it here.  They’re as delicious as they look!

BEFORE

AFTER

I’m old…

This past week we were on summer holidays waaaay up north. While we were up there, I did a family session for some friends of mine. Actually, I babysat Stacey (the mom) and her siblings, hence the blog title, “I’m Old!”  We planned this session, and the day it came, so did the rain and ugliness. By evening though, the skies cleared, and we had an hour or so to shoot. It was so fun to get to be at home and photographing people that I’ve known my whole life. Thanks for driving out to the lake guys. It was great to meet your girls and see your parent’s again.

On a bit of a side note, if there are any Meadow Lakers making plans for 2011 (a bit far in advance, I know), I’m thinking of maybe doing some summer sessions there for a few weeks. If you’re interested in getting kid/family/wedding/grad pictures done, let me know! I’ll be planning our summer around when I can book some lake sessions.  :)

I can’t remember what she was doing here, but I just had to include it!
