Baby’s back…

It was almost 2 months ago that I last photographed these two little people. But the littlest of the little people was only a few days old. You can view his newborn post here.  Today was family picture day, and because of the insane winds, we kept things inside.  The session was short and sweet, but we mangaged to get a shot or two of everything we intended to.

A little on the formal side

On monday night I did a shoot on location at this family’s home. They’ve done so much work restoring this early 1900s house. It’s just beautiful and it’s decorated so well. Makes me jealous, with my boring 1980s house.   Even though it was a more formal session than I normally do, we were laughing the whole time, thanks to an entertaining someone.  Thanks for the fun night, and awesome dessert.

Had to include the “epic” shot (sorry, inside joke)

ATTN: 2010 Grads!! (sorry to yell)

I just wanted throw a quick post up about spring grad sessions. I’m already getting quite a few calls for grad sessions in May and June, so if you are graduating this year, don’t wait til spring to book your session. I was filled up with families this fall and wasn’t able to take too many casual sessions, so I am now booking casuals and formals in the spring. So in other words, it’s going to get very full, very fast. If you are from one of the classes that I regularly book on the actual grad day, you can call to secure your session time. The other option is booking on a day other than your actual grad day. This will enable us to go to a few locations, instead of just at the studio. You’ll get alot more variety, and you won’t be so stressed out on grad day.

E-mail me at pmphoto@sasktel.net, or call 697-2435 to book.  I’ll leave you with a few shots from some of last year’s grad students….

Last wedding of September

For today’s wedding, we did things a bit differently. The bride wanted to do some studio shots, and I very rarely do that with weddings, unless the weather is awful, and I’ve got a local one. I am sooooo glad that she wanted to do some here! She let me try some old hollywood lighting, and I LOVE how it turned out! We definately got some different images from my normal style.

After the studio pics, we headed out to Wolseley, one of the prettiest towns in Southeastern Saskatchewan. It’s got some great old buildings, and we took advantage of alot of cool architechure.  Hope you guys had/are having (since I’m posting this while they’re likely dancing the night away!!) a great reception.  :)

I also want to say a quick thank you to my wonderful, observant assistant today. She is one of my august brides and it was great to have her with me helping out.  Thanks so much Marcy!

Saskatchewan skies, with people!

I headed out with these two girls the other night, and we were blessed with a beautiful trademark Saskatchewan evening sky. It was so pretty, and I really liked how their brown shirts looked with it.  They’re fun girls, and I can’t even count how many times I’ve photographed them between family pictures, sister shoots and dance.  Thanks also to their mom who graciously entertained Casey for me, since he just HAD to come with mommy to do pictures.

Have a great weekend everyone!!  :)

Family fun

This is the second time that I’ve photographed this family (third if you count their wedding pictures!)  I get such a kick out of these kids. They are so sweet and energetic (Ms. S especially!)  We did a mix of outdoor and indoor stuff. Here’s what we came up with….

Elegance in the evening

I had the wonderful opportunity to shoot a very unique wedding on saturday. The post may look a little backwards, as the ceremony pictures are close to the end. This couple chose to have an outdoor 8:00 p.m. ceremony. It was the most breathtaking scene. Weather could not have cooperated any better. The air was still warm and the breeze was just enough to keep the bugs away. There wasn’t a cloud in sight, so the starts danced like diamonds in the black sky. It was a spectacular event.

We started the day by doing some pre-bridal shots, then met up with the groom to do some pictures of the two of them together. It was so relaxing and wonderful to share some time with them before the hustle of the day began. They were such soft gentle people, and were so easy to be around.  We met up with the wedding party later on, then family, then off for the evening ceremony. A live band was playing instrumental Beatles music, which just set the mood perfectly. If anyone knows me, they’ve probably seen me in any number of different Beatles t-shirts, so I was in my glory! I just can’t describe how beautiful and romantic the whole day was. The ambiance was like something out of a movie. Thank you so much for choosing me as your photographer. I was honored to be a part of your day. :)

Friday’s sessions

Friday afternoon was hot and windy, but that’s better than cold and rainy, so I headed out to a farm just south of town for my afternoon session. If anyone is under the assumption that Saskatchewan is flat, just look at this first view. Similar to the view from the family from a few posts down. Saskatchewan has some spectacular scenery, and in the fall, it’s in it’s glory. I love the rock that they chose too, to overlook this spot. We wandered around their land a bit, finding different locations.  For a farming family, a combine shot is a must. Since he was actually in the middle of combining, and came in quick to clean up for pictures, the combine is good and authentically dusty, as it should be. ;)

My second session took me out north of town. I have to tell you, this family rocks. I’ve done all three boy’s grad photos, and they’re such fun guys. I just get such a kick out of them. They’re hilarious and full of life. I really hope they don’t come kidnap me when they see this first image, but they did it all on their own, without my prompting. I suppose that’s maybe worse than if I had asked, but they’re just a bunch of goofballs. They’ve got terrific parents too, and I enjoyed every minute of hanging out with them.  For anyone that knows them, the tire picture was something that we just had to do. Very fitting for this family!  Oh, and don’t be upset that I don’t have an individual of Tyler. He had his moment in the spotlight when we photographed him with his Mustang for grad last year. So that’s why only the other boys got individuals. :)

And this ↓ is what we call a Saskatchewan sunset.  LOVE it!  This was shot as we were swatting mosquitos and yapping just after finishing the session. Wicked, wicked skies we have here. Phenomenal actually.

Facebook can be good

I have to tell a quick story before I introduce this family. Facebook can be a excellent time sucker/waster, but it’s also sort of cool how you can find people from waaaay back that you have  known in a whole other life.  The mom of the family and I had known eachother as kids, and our families were good friends. She has, like me, a unique name, and I saw a comment on a friend’s facebook picture from this girl. I asked my friend this girls maiden name, and sure enough, it was my childhood buddy!  I had to include a picture that my dad took of us in our figure skating outfits when we were probably 7 or 8.  I hope you don’t want to shoot me after I show this!!

Anyway, on to the session. These guys travelled 2 1/2 hours (one way!) to come for their family session, so I wanted to be sure we got some killer images!  I hope we accomplished that. The girls were so sweet and friendly. We had some beautiful evening light and warm fall colors.  I love this time of year. I only wish it lasted a little longer.  Thank you soooo much for making such a long drive to come for your session.  :)

Just cause

The other afternoon I got to do a shoot completely just for fun. I don’t often do that, because I can rarely afford the time, but when these girls called me wanted to do a crazy shoot, I made the time.  It was so cool to be able to just take my camera, try funky poses, use weird lenses, do different photoshop techiniques, all just because it was artistic and creative. It was so much fun to just let loose a bit!

The girls said they had some interesting outfits and ideas, so I went with it. I used my funky Lensbaby lens, so if you’re looking at these images thinking they look really blurry in parts, that’s on purpose! It’s a fun lens, but it’s a little more artistic, and not always something for everyone’s tastes. It’s also a little hard to use, so I don’t use it too often.  We had quite a few stares as people drove by and saw the tutus, bright colors and boas. It was great! thanks for being super models and for getting all artsy for me.  :)
