Multi-talented

I’m sure everyone in this part of the province knows that Saturday was a disgusting day. Dark, dreary, rainy.  Thankfully, I didn’t have a wedding booked! I did, however, have a grad student, and he had all sorts of props for me to work with. Doing everything in the studio was out of the question.  After a couple of inside shots with the guitar, we were off on the town.  First stop, the ball diamond. He was kept dry in the dugout. I, on the other hand, was standing in the field, umbrella in one hand, camera in the other.  That’s tricky stuff! Anything for a cool photo.  We also stopped by an old porch to get a few more outdoor guitar shots. I’m so glad we did! I had trouble narrowing down which ones to post. There were a lot of artsy images.

When we came back to the studio, we did some shots of him in his Tae Kwon Do attire.  This guy’s dad, Master Brett Ferch, has taken on instructing a group of us in town.  I am absolutely loving it!  This student and his family also help instruct the classes every week, and they’re awesome.  So if you guys are all reading this, thanks so much for all the effort you put into us, even if we don’t catch on as quickly as we should!  We’ll miss you next year once you’ve graduated. :(

Broadview Grads

God was good, and the sun shone!!  Broadview grad was on friday, and last year it was snowing on their grad day.  So the warm weather, wind and sun was a very, very welcome forecast.  I know the rest of the weekend sucked in a big way, but I was happy at least that it didn’t start until I was finished with my kids!!  I know that’s selfish, but the tree across the street was in full bloom, and I sooooo wanted to take advantage of that.  It was gorgeous with the girl’s shots, and being that there is only one boy in the class, the tree was a focal point for 99% of the class.  Even the “field” of dandelions in the empty lot across the street worked well.  You work with what you’ve got. :)

Hope you guys had a great, safe night on friday. Congrats!!

Last week’s grad boys

Lots of boys this week, from all over (Whitewood, Cowesses, Wolseley) so you’re all getting grouped together!

First of the summer weddings…

Forgive the order of this blog post. My annoying blog is acting up, and I can’t seem to line images up, or get them in the right order. Usually I put wedding party stuff first, but oh well.  I’m sure it’s only me that it bothers.  This was the first wedding of the spring/summer season. I was glad to get through the day with no injuries.  When I did this couple’s engagement session, I stepped on a nail that went right up in the arch of my foot. And of course it was the first pose I did, so I had to hobble around with blood dripping off my foot for the whole session. The wedding went much smoother! I did get risky when I got one of the groomsmen to help me up onto a garbage can on main street to get a few shots, but I liked the angle, and I managed to not do any damamge to myself!

Congratulations you guys.  Hope you have a wonderful honeymoon.

The real Friday grads

So this is the crew that I had in on friday. The last post I did was actually thursday afternoon, but I was getting ahead of myself on my post titles.  :)   I had a bunch of Whitewood grads come down on the real friday, and as always, I had fun (and hope they did too!)  Grad season is so incredibly hectic, but I love it!

Friday’s Grads

Three Kipling grads, in Wolseley.  Odd, yes, but it’s such a pretty town, so we went there for some new locations.

Mini cowboy

This morning’s session was SO MUCH FUN!!  I went out to a ranch to photograph a young family, and we had PERFECT weather.  Could not have been better. Super blue skies, no wind, pouffy clouds. Awesome.  We went all over the farmyard, getting up close and personal with the horses, dogs and cows.  This tiny cowboy rode his own horse, and I was so impressed!  He took care to brush him beforehand, and help dad out in getting them all ready.  He knew exactly what to do.  Thanks for having me out guys. It’s just so refreshing to be back outdoors, shooting the way I love to shoot.

Boys, boys, boys

These boys could make a career out of posing for me.  I started photographing the oldest when he was about a year old, and they keep coming back, year after year, with each addition to the family.  They are all such happy, cheerful boys, and the oldest (who knows me pretty well by now!) is THE best big brother. He was feeling horrible, and had been quite sick the day before the pictures. He was completely exhausted, but as soon as we needed to get a few shots of the three boys together, he got himself in there, and smiled away.  No complaints, only a few quiet tears with dad after he was done his “job”.  Thanks so much for taking the time to do a session while you guys were home. I know it was a quick trip, so I appreciate the effort it took for you guys to come and do this. Hope the trip back home to Alberta went smoothly! :)

And the newest little mister, the star of the photo session for this go-around.

Outtakes are the best. :) :)

Saturday’s sessions

Saturday was a busy day of grad sessions.  This first picture, with the brilliant blue sky, is not my typical style of image.  I usually tend to do the more subtle colors, and softer, more romantic type of imagery. The thing is, with grad guys, that’s not what they want. I’ve been wanting to try this technique for awhile, but have never been able to master it. Well, I finally figured out what I had been doing wrong, and on saturday, I got what I was after. Thank you to Mr. S for being patient with me!  I like how it turned out. I think he sort of looks like a technicolor super hero.

The grad student I had after lunch came for casuals and formals, so she gets double the images in this post. Plus, she’s my first grad student of the season to do her formals, so I was having a blast with her.

And then there’s my Wolseley student at the end. His younger brother came along with us and had me laughing so hard. He’s a complete nut, and he didn’t stop talking the ENTIRE time! So all the awesome laughing shots are totally thanks to him.

Can you spot the photographer?? ↓

Dance

I have to apologize to my local dance club. The girls had wanted me to put a few pictures up on the blog, and I got busy doing other stuff, and neglected to put them up until now. So here’s a quick few for you girls!

The Senior hip hop girls with their humongous trophy. ;)
