Newborn

This is another one of those families who does very well in documenting their lives through pictures. I’m sure I mentioned it when I posted their last family session, but I’ve been there with them through every major event. Here we have baby #2 to welcome to the family, and we captured her within days of her birth. I have had the little hammock for ages, but have never gotten a shot with it. I was so happy she was such a peaceful and content little lady. She was a perfect model for it :)

I can say in all honesty that trying to get a picture with a toddler  and a newborn is virtually impossible. I try as hard as I can every time to get the siblings together, but in most cases, it’s a very difficult shot to get. That being said, I am soo stinkin’ proud of this image! Not because I’m so amazing, because I didn’t have much to do with the success of this, but because this little man is such a good listener. When I asked him to take off his shirt, put his head on his sister’s back and not smile, he did it! Unbelievable. Thanks so much dude :)

Family

Last week I photographed a local family (our neighbors actually) and the sun was beautiful. I love how the pinks looked with the golden colors of the evening :)

Pregnancy

I have had the best run of maternity sessions lately. It’s been so nice to shoot them outside, in the sunlight, with great locations. I’ve known this girl since she was in elementary school, so it’s pretty neat to be able to now capture this time for her. She’s still got a few months to go before they get to meet their new little one, but timing worked out to do the session at this time of year. I’m so glad we did. It was a gorgeous morning, and her mom’s garden was full of blooms.  Best of luck with the next few months :)

Family

On labour day, we went to the city to hang out with some friends for the afternoon.  After the game was over, we went to the park for a quick little mini session. Lindsey and I have become friends over the past few years, as she’s also a photographer. She is Lilyfield photography, and you can find some of her images on her facebook page.  It’s been cool getting to know her whole family as well. Her boys and my youngest LOVE to play together, and her husband and my husband share a passion for old snowmobiles. We’re a match made in heaven ;)   Thanks for the fun day guys.

I think this shot below is my favorite family picture in recent months. I just love how cuddly everyone is.

Engagement

It’s been a crazy time lately with photographing other photographers. First is was Sharon, from Valley Portraits, this session is Marcy Velestuk, of Parade Imagery, and I have another two photographer friends coming up on the blog in the near future! I just need to get my family in gear and get one of my photog girlfriends to shoot a quick session for us.

Anyway, Marcy had done her work placement with me when she took the now extinct photography course at SIAST in Regina. She is now living in alberta, planning a wedding, and doing some photography out there as well. Check out her site HERE. I will be photographing their wedding next year, and it will be awesome. If anyone has any antique tea cannisters that they want to sell or lend out to her, she’d be forever grateful to you :)

1st birthday

It was a little over a year ago that I was photographing this little dude’s newborn session! A year is amazing in a baby’s life, isn’t it? We were a little late on getting these done on his actual birthday, but we were pretty close. He got himself a second cake out of the deal too, although he was very delicate about how he approached it. I’ve done a few smash the cake sessions now, and I’ve always had very tidy toddlers! With a little encouragement though, he dug right in and enjoyed carefully licking his fingers clean. Sweetness :)

Angel from Montgomery

I love the word Montgomery. I don’t know why, but I just do. It makes me happy that I have friends who have a sheep named Montgomery. And I love the John Prine song, Angel from Montgomery. Now I’m not a big John Prine fan when he sings his own songs, but I like when other people cover his songs. Since Dave Matthews is my all time favorite musician, I’ll put the DMB version first. But there are alot of good ones. I’m sure there are lots of people who just skip over my posts about music, so likely I’m only talking to a small handful of you, but I love music. I had an out of town family session today, and on my way home,  Angel from Montgomery came around on my MP3 player, so that’s where this random thought came from. :)

This is done by Dave Matthews Band, with Boyd Tinsley singing along with Dave, and playing the violin.  I know the sound quality isn’t the greatest, but it’s just such a cool song, regardless of the low quality home video.

This is a cool version from the movie “Into the Wild”, sung by Kristen Stewart.  And btw, if you’ve never seen this movie, it’s quite intriguing. Rent it next weekend. The soundtrack is also worth buying, as it’s written and sung by the very talented, Eddie Veder.

And I suppose since John Prine wrote the song, I should really include his version too. If any of you made it through this whole post and listened to all three versions, good for you!

A celebration

A good friend of mine, Sharon Clark of Valley Portraits, got married to an incredibly cool guy over winter, in Hawaii. Unfortunately for me, she didn’t bring me along  :( .  But they did have a small family reception at the end of august, and I got to go to that! She has a hard time putting down her camera, and she did have it with her almost all day, but I tried to capture her family and friends, as well as all the little details that went into their day so she wouldn’t have to do it all!  It was great fun just hanging out and shooting for fun. I’m so happy for you guys, and it was a beautiful day to celebrate with you, even if it wasn’t Hawaii.

Extended family

It was a perfectly beautiful evening to photograph this extended family grouping so we took full advantage of many different areas between the two family farms.  Lots of variety, that’s for sure!

Family

Since I last photographed this family, there has been a new addition!  We used the same yard as we did last time, but we used all new spots and it worked out great.  Just had to avoid the odd cow patty…
