Since I last photographed this family, there has been a new addition! We used the same yard as we did last time, but we used all new spots and it worked out great. Just had to avoid the odd cow patty…

After I shot a few days in Meadow Lake, I headed back to Saskatoon for another full day of sessions. Baby, engagement, family. Alot got covered! I think I said it in the last post too, but I just love Saskatoon. It’s so full of prettiness, everywhere you turn. I really enjoyed my time there working, as well as wandering around a little and seeing the downtown area. I have too many weddings booked next year to do this road trip thing again, but I think 2013 might have to be another year of hitting the road to do more family type shoots. So if someone out in Montreal or the Maritimes might be reading this, I’d happily come out there and do some location work!

As many of you know, I decided not to take any weddings in August of this year, but instead chose to go on the road and shoot a few family sessions. I grew up in Meadow Lake and so I threw it out there if anyone wanted pictures at the lakes in the Meadow Lake Provincial Park (the BEST park in Saskatchewan by the way!) I’d come up and shoot. It ended up that I booked a few sessions in Saskatoon on either side of my Meadow Lake trip as well, so it was a terrific time on the road, shooting in a different spot every day. I went to Jeanette Lake, Loon Lake and Kimball Lake, as well as all over the beautiful city of Saskatoon, including the Forestry Farm and the downtown area. I absolutely loved getting away again, and exploring the city of bridges in between sessions. Thanks to everyone who booked in, and I thank you for your patience with me! Being on location for 8 days and being away from the computer means a TON of files to go through once all the fun of travelling is over! Enjoy
I know it’s been a long time since I posted anything!

As I was photographing an extended family group a few weeks back, I noticed this little girl walking with her freshly picked flower behing her back. It looked so cute the way she was hiding her newfound gem in her hands, and I wanted to take a picture before she noticed what I was doing. I followed behind her a few paces, trying to shoot as she and I were both walking. Some were nice and sharp, and some images of course were out of focus a bit. I almost deleted them as I was going through the files, but his one just stopped me in my tracks. It was enough out of focus that a mom wasn’t going to want it the way it was, but it was clear enough that I could see that with a bit of creativity, it was going to be a very telling image. I’m so glad I didn’t hit the delete button!
I think the reason I didn’t delete it is because I had been at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon on the weekend and had viewed a collection by Courtney Milne, a Canadian nature photographer. He had a collection of 40 images, all shot in the reflection in his pool in his back yard. He shot at all different times of the day, and in all four seasons. Because they were reflections, they were all more ethereal than realistic, and I felt so inspired to create. I do have a job where creativity is vital and most times, encouraged, but to really produce art takes time. I see my photography style as artistic, but I don’t always feel like it’s “art”. That’s a whole discussion in itself, but none the less, I wanted to try and bring this image below alive by taking it to another level. I really love how it turned out, and though it’s not neccessarily one that a mom is going to buy for herself, it’s what makes me smile. ![]()

Below is a slideshow of the exhibit at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon, by photographer Courtney Milne. For some reason, I can’t get the video preview to show up on the blog, but click on his name below and it will take you to the Vimeo.
At the end of last week I photographed a local family here in town. We found a beautiful area that I haven’t used very often before. The little girls kept things lively with lots of giggles, gymnastic moves, and kisses. They’re always so much fun. Hope you guys had a good time on holidays!

I get to photograph this family quite often, and after a few shy periods when the kids were younger, I think they’ve warmed up to me! They were both super fun and happy. I loved hanging out with them in downtown Indian Head and capturing their youthful spirit. Thank you guys for your faithful yearly booking!

This family was great. Their boys were just so adorable, well behaved, and fun. We had a perfect afternoon for shooting, and I love the little bow tie!

A few days ago I went out near Whitewood to photograph a young family at their farm. When I pulled into the yard, I saw a dog chasing/playing with a teeny little white colt. It was the cutest thing! They were having a great time running around. :) I’ve been getting to go to so many farms lately and photograph with horses. I always wished I could have been involved with horses growing up, but I guess this job has given me a chance to at least hang out with them once in a while!

Change of pace from grads… I photographed a set of 2 year old twins last week, and it was such a fun session! I have to thank my awesome friends Steven and Candace for letting me use their farm, and for Steven for rounding up all sorts of animals for us to use as props. The girls absolutely adored all the animals.

It’s that time of year again! Every year I photograph this little girl, and every year she gets cuter. I just love hanging out with her and capturing her personality. She’s going to be an amazing grown up when she gets there. I was thinking as I was doing this session, I sure hope I’m still doing this in another decade, so I can photograph her grad.
