Spikey frost

A few days ago, it was apparentely GORGEOUS out in the country. I had two girlfriends phone to tell me to go out and take pictures. There had been freezing rain, and it had made a coating on all the tree branches, making them appear like glass in the sparkling sunlight. I wasn’t able to get away from the studio those days, as I had customers picking up prints, but I did manage to head out into my backyard and grab a few shots. The frost had  stuck to the branches in a wierd spikey way that I don’t know if I’ve ever seen before. It was like you could see the motion of the wind, and how it froze in the direction it was blowing the rainy frost.  Very cool.

E-mail troubles

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Would you believe with all the fall sessions I’ve done with families in the past few weeks, that I don’t have a single shot of the beautiful leaves, without a family in front! So here’s a pretty summery picture for the post. I shot this image in august for a lady from town. It’s the Lakeside Nursing Home in Wolseley, and she had worked there for years. She is now retired and wanted a shot of the building and it’s amazing surroundings. I went through town a number of times, and never had a nice day to photograph the building.  I finally went through on a sunny blue day, and the result was fabulous!  I think the people who’s homes face this every day must love where they live. If you’ve never stopped in Wolseley, it’s a really pretty town, and worth a visit.

Happy thanksgiving to everyone. As much as we can complain about rain, wind, mosquitos, etc., we’ve got it pretty good compared to the majority of people on this earth.  Thank God that we live in a country that isn’t at war, that doesn’t have earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, avalanches, and daily bombings.  As tough as we think we have it some days, there are so many others that would do anything to live where we live and have the safety and peace of a country and province like ours.  Hug your family, have some turkey and pumpkin pie, and don’t forgot to never take for granted the blessed life you have.  :)

Missed one!

I can’t believe I missed this Rufus Wainwright cover!  Very cool video too. If you don’t have the I am Sam soundtrack, it’s well worth the money. And if you haven’t seen the movie, you need to.

The Beatles

Everyone can use a few Beatle tunes once in awhile. Covers or originals, they’re all good. :)

I LOVE Eddie Vedder’s version of this song.

John Butler Trio

I just typed in the word “John” in youtube this morning, and found this. Amazing….

Vintage rides

Being that our town sits on the Trans Canada highway, we get a ton of traffic in the summertime. Our friend owns the Esso gas station here in town, and from time to time I’ll get phone calls out of the blue from him.  “Tatum, you’ve got to come down to the Esso!”  Sometimes it’s motorbikes, sometimes it’s cars. You just never know.  Even though I’m not very knowledgable when it comes to bikes or cars or any type of motorized anything, I do usually end up having fun taking these shots, and fooling around with them in Photoshop.  Here’s what rolled in over the long weekend.

Summertime

A peak at some of my favorite summer moments….

Music time

I was up into the early hours of the morning last night working, and I was listening to youtube in the background. I was listening to Amos lee, the wonderfully talented Amy Winehouse and one of my latest favorites, John Mayer. I love John Mayer best live (as I do with most of the really gifted musicians. They have a much more honest, real feel to their live stuff).  I know that JM seems like he might be quite a jerk in real life (from the tabloid stuff you read anyway), but the man has an undeniably romantic stage presence. Here are a few clips from his Live in LA set.  I listen to this Cd at minimum 2 full work days per week. It’s just one of those ones you never get sick of.

And an Amy Winehouse clip, to show that despite her media attention for the wrong reasons, this girl can sing!!

Now, back to editing. Wolseley grads, your post is still coming up. I didn’t forget about you!! There’s just around 1400 files to go through with your class, so it’s taking me some time!!

Autism

I recieved an e-mail link from a friend this morning, and I was so moved to tears by it, that I wanted to repost it on here. This is a video clip from Medical Mysteries about a girl who has autism.  Her parents were relentless in pushing her to excell, despite her illness. They are now seeing how all their efforts with therapy and love have benefitted her and improved her quality of life. It’s an incredible story, if you have 9 minutes to spare….
