Sweet words

I just recieved an email from one of my brides from earlier this summer. Her words were so thoughtful, I just wanted to share….

Tatum,

I received the disk yesterday and love the pics on the album and disk ! Thanks again for making our memories AWESOME. My
grandma told me that your pics are all you will have to look at years after the wedding so make
sure you dont cheap out on them. I cheaped out before but not this time, I got the BEST photos
I have ever had in my life with all the thanks to you. I have NEVER had pics of myself that I say,
“I look hot” . And pics that I would actually say could be in a magazine:)

Melville Wedding

Another Melville wedding this weekend, and it was almost the same weather as the last Melville wedding! Rainy.  Dang!  But then you get that break after the little shower, and the sky is dark, and the sun peeks out just a bit, and you get wicked color.  And the bridesmaid’s dresses just happened to go great with stormy weather, being a dark navy blue!  I love doing wedding pictures out on the farm. Everyone is always in a pretty good mood, the couples are pretty easy going, and the locations are always laid back and natural. I love it!

Moose Jaw Wedding

On sunday we shot another wedding, this time in Moose Jaw. This is such an amazingly beautiful city. I’ve only been there a couple times, and I think only in the winter, because I didn’t realize it had so many gorgeous spots.  This couple got married outside, overlooking the rolling hills of a golf course. Other than the fact that it was about +35, and we were all dripping with sweat, it was so pretty and romantic! :)  I told them afterward, I don’t usually get emotional during ceremonies, but I was getting teary during theirs. They were so sweet in their vows that they wrote to eachother, and you could tell they had such a respect and genuine love for eachother, with a healthy dose of goofiness thrown in. I really enjoyed meeting them and spending the day with them. Congrats guys!!

Weyburn Wedding

This past long weekend was a busy one, with two weddings, the first being in Weyburn. These guys were so much fun. Ever since the YouTube video started circulating a year or two ago with the wedding party dancing down the aisle, I thought it would be so cool if I ever had a wedding party do that. Well, this weekend it happened!  The ushers started, followed by a few bridesmaids, groomsmen, and then they looped around the sides and came down again as couples, then the third time they brought the groom with them. It was so awesome!

After the ceremony, we headed out to the cutest area of town, where there are a ton of old heritage buildings, with gorgeous English style gardens covering the property. Lots of hollyhocks, vines, stone pathways, old porches, etc.  It was perfect for pictures!  After all the pretty pictures were done, we went to the top of the hill and played a bit of football, with the sun beating down at + 30.  Toasty, but cool pictures!  I hope you all enjoyed the rest of your evening together with your friends and family.  You were all a blast to hang out with. :)

Many of you from town know Josie, and all my wedding parties will know her as the girl who comes along with me.  Every wedding she comes to, she does more and more second shooting, and she’s got a great eye for capturing things from different angles.  The shot on the left is mine, and Josie’s is on the right.  Once we get to doing the “couple” shots, Josie quite often has my other camera, and is standing off to the side, snapping up extras. It works so well, and I’m so happy to have someone with me that I have so much confidence in!

Wedding extra

I was editing wedding pictures this afternoon, and I came across this shot and after I did a black and white-ish conversion, I just had to post it on here. This is from last weekend’s wedding. It was a rainy day to begin with, so the umbrella came in handy for the first few shots while it was misting a bit. I love this shot. Umbrellas really do make great props!

Melville Wedding

The forecast said 100% chance of rain. The bride said don’t worry, it’ll be nice. I wasn’t so sure. In the first collage, you can see the rain coming down at 11:00 a.m.   It was pouring buckets.  And it kept pouring buckets right up until the ceremony.  By the time the church service wrapped up, it was just misting and lightly spitting. We did some pictures outside with umbrellas. By the time we got to the farm to shoot, it has stopped raining. She was right. Unbelievable! It was downright frigid, but it wasn’t raining, and we got through the whole day outside.  Lots of frogs were found, lots of puddles were jumped, lots of cuddling for warmth was done.  It was such a fun day and the wedding party was so great.  Thanks for having us out guys. You were all awesome.

Oxbow Wedding

My travels for this wedding took me way down south to Oxbow, Sk.  I really enjoyed the day, as I had photographed the bride’s grad pictures, as well as a few of the bridesmaids. It’s always nice to have familiar faces in a wedding party!  We had a bit of a scorcher, at +30 something, but make-shift fans were made, and blotting towelettes were used generously!  Thanks to the awesome wedding party for sticking with us through all the heat. You guys were so much fun :)  bec-1bec-8bec-5

This groomsmen deserved his own little grouping/collage on the blog. He had me laughing all day.

Kenosee Lake Wedding

On Canada day, I was able to enjoy the local parade, grab a hot dog, enjoy the company of friends and family, and I was able to head out in the afternoon to shoot a beautiful wedding! Because the ceremony was later in the day, I got to take in some of my own Canada day festivities as well as work, so it turned out great. Kenosee is always a terrific location to shoot wedding pictures, and we had ideal weather, which was of course appreciated.  Here’s a little preview of the day…  Hope everyone had an awesome Canada Day long weekend!  :)

As their wedding gift to eachother, this couple bought a ’73 bug.  I’m a sucker for a Beetle, as I once owned a “71 and a ’72.  I was loving shooting with the car, and we did some funky bright shots, as well as some vintage inspired looking ones. I like going on those photography sites where everything flows really nicely, and everything is uniform and the style is all soft and pretty. I love that.  But I also like fooling around with other styles. So I have some new, some old, some soft and romantic, some with bright colors. I’m just change my mind too quickly to stick to one particular style I guess!  Hope no one minds ;)

Wedding

Last friday I was in Saskatoon photographing  a wedding. It’s not often that I photograph a wedding of a friend, but this was case for this one. I got to enjoy the whole day as a photographer, but also on  a more personal level, as I knew all the family quite well.  It was really nice to shoot at the university grounds in Saskatoon. Such a gorgeous campus this time of year. We were lucky that the 70% forecasted rain didn’t amount to anything. I was a little worried, wondering where we’d go if there was a downpour! I have to give a big thank you to Gena Yesnik, a  photographer in Saskatoon. She explained how to get around the campus, and what areas were ideal for pictures. Unfortunately because of wind and time, I didn’t get to take advantage of all the spots she recommended, but she was such a big help in guiding me around the area.

The wedding took place later on in the evening, so we did all the pictures beforehand. The groom was waiting behind the gate while the bride walked down the pathway to meet him. HUGE smiles when they first saw eachother! ♥♥

After a few shots in the first meeting area, we went to a nearby restaraunt to shoot a few images. This is the booth in the restaraunt where they first met. We lucked out with very few other patrons there at the time.

I love the shot below. I was walking ahead of them, and turned around to see him holding up his phone to take a quick picture. I quickly pulled my camera off my shoulder and got my own version. :)

This was the last shot of the evening as they were leaving the reception venue, heading off into married life!

Elkhorn wedding – Part 3

Yes, I know this wedding got spoiled. Three blog posts!  But it was a full day’s coverage, so there’s lots to share.  To start off the reception, the bride and groom had the wedding party up at the head table open their gifts.  If anyone has seen National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation yet this year, you’ll recognize the mug in the first picture. If you haven’t, Chevy and Randy are sipping their eggnog out of theirs in the following shot!

Later on in the evening, guests were treating to an amazing fireworks display.  I couldn’t feel my fingers after the first 5 minutes, and then when I walked into the snowbank with my strappy stillettos, I couldn’t feel my toes either, but I love this first shot of the guests all watching the show.  So I guess it was worth it!
